Calfuray darted through the swaying garden. A sparkling trail of bubbles in her wake, she moved with elegance and ease amongst the tangle of plants. Occasionally slowing to peer closer at a pretty bit of coral, to nibble on a delicate weed or just to look at the beauty of her surroundings.
Her home, her garden, her wonderfully wet world beneath the surface of the sea. Where light just barely reached from the sun, where currents wandered through, tugging at her plants.
Calfuray danced with practiced patience as one such current tickled by, trying it's best to carry her along it's busy route. A quick dive, a fast swim and soon she was tucked behind the safety of rocks. A wall of stone that even the mighty currents couldn't loosen.
She watched with glee as rippling waters swept by still, occasionally thrusting her face from behind the rock. She loved the feeling of the water tickling her snout, inviting her to play amongst the currents. Teasing her with swirling invitations to soar through the sea and leave her gardens behind.
Sometimes she did. Sometimes she swam along with the waters, the rocks and gardens left in a quick blur of color and rushing bubbles. But not today, today she was content to observe the sparkling clouds of sand, stirred up no doubt by the busy fins of some neighbor fish, drift by in the water. Bits of plant, tiny shells and even other seahorses were carried along, an ever changing show for Calfuray's curious eyes.
For a long time she stayed, tucked amongst the rocks, a gleaming amethyst creature. A delicate jewel amongst the turbulent waters and craggy stones, a queen of the sea. Until she felt the familiar tug of a different sort distract her curiosity. Her gardens called to her, pulling at her heart, guiding her away from the currents and her hiding place behind the rocks.
Until once more she drifted through the colorful forest of coral and swaying plants. Contented where she was, the allure of the currents forgotten for a time...
